40 Years of Careless Whisper

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the release of George Michael’s much-loved iconic masterpiece Careless Whisper, George Michael Entertainment, GME, and Sony Music will be releasing the Careless Whisper EP on 18th October 2024.


Available on both digital and physical formats, the Careless Whisper EP will feature a previously unreleased live recording of the timeless hit performed at the illustrious Madison Square Garden in New York City during George’s electrifying concert on the 23rd of July 2008. The recording captures the historic performance marking his reunion with a New York audience after an astounding 17-year hiatus. It was part of his monumental 25Live tour, a worldwide phenomenon that sold out arenas and stadiums and captivated over 1.3 million fans across the globe.
The EP will also include newly mastered versions of the original single, the extended mix and instrumental.

Topping the charts in 25 countries back in 1984, today Careless Whisper is certified 7 x Platinum in The United States and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the UK alone. It has also been certified Platinum and Diamond in a further 20 countries.   Written with Wham! band mate Andrew Ridgeley when George Michael was just 17 years old, and widely remarked as a masterpiece of contemporary songwriting, today it is hailed as a modern-day classic.  Careless Whisper holds a truly unparalleled legacy that resulted in him becoming the youngest recipient of an Ivor Novello Award at just 21 years old, propelling him into global superstardom. Also making him the first artist ever to top the charts as both a soloist and as a member of a group/duo in the same calendar year.

Also this year Careless Whisper has come top of a radio poll for the nation’s favourite song for a sixth year in a row.
The track was voted top of Smooth Radio’s All Time Top 500, an annual list of the UK’s best-loved songs.
On YouTube the song has more than one billion views..

The Older reissue is due July 8, 2022

George‘s classic album Older, written and produced by him and originally released in 1996 through Virgin Records, will be reissued and distributed by Sony Music in a variety of formats on 8th July 2022.

It will be released across 2LPs newly mastered from original tapes and pressed on 180gsm vinyl.

There is also a deluxe boxset being released featuring Older on vinyl, Upper on vinyl for the first time and 3CDs with 27 rare tracks and mixes. The boxset is presented in a rigid double slipcase containing 5 CDs and 3 LPs along with a digital download. The set includes a large 12” x 12” 48 page book, The Story Of Older, featuring a brand new essay by Dan Davies recounting the stories behind the album with contributions from key people who helped make the album plus rare and previously unseen photos. It also includes 3 12” x 12” art prints of George.

On its original release Older spent 35 weeks in the UK Top 10. It produced six singles including the two number ones Fastlove and Jesus to a Child. The album went 6x Platinum in the UK and it was verified Platinum in another 22 countries.

Older, uno degli album storici di George, interamente scritto e prodotto da George Michael e originariamente pubblicato nel 1996 dalla Virgin Records, sarà ristampato e distribuito da Sony Music in vari formati in uscita l’8 luglio 2022.

È inoltre previsto un cofanetto deluxe che conterrà Older in vinile, Upper edito per la prima volta su vinile e 3 CD con 27 brani e mix rari. Il box viene presentato in un doppio cofanetto rigido contenente 5 CD e 3 LP più il download in digitale. Il set include The Story Of Older un grande libro (in formato 12″ x 12″) di 48 pagine che include un nuovissimo saggio di Dan Davies che racconta gli aneddoti del dietro le quinte dell’album con il contributo di elementi chiave che hanno contribuito a realizzarlo e foto rare e inedite. Sono inoltre incluse 3 stampe artistiche di George in formato 12 “x 12”.

All’epoca della sua prima pubblicazione Older ha trascorso 35 settimane nella Top 10 del Regno Unito. Ne sono stati estratti sei singoli, inclusi Fastlove e Jesus to a Child che sono arrivati entrambe al primo posto della classifica. L’album ha ottenuto 6 dischi di platino nel Regno Unito e si è guadagnato il disco di platino in altri 22 paesi.
