George Michael: The Faith Tour. New Film and Live Album in 2026

The upcoming concert film George Michael: The Faith Tour captures two nights in Paris, in the spring of 1988, from recently rediscovered footage. 

It’s directed by two of George’s longtime collaborators, Andy Morahan and David Austin. There will also be a live album of previously unreleased performances, similarly called The Faith Tour.

An unheard interview with George Michael will serve as a voiceover, and unseen images shot by Herb Ritts and behind-the-scenes footage from the Faith music video will also be featured.
The film will also open with an original short film by Mary McCartney, which will offer “an intimate introduction contextualizing the tour’s cultural significance”.

The Faith Tour supported George Michael’s debut solo album, released in 1987 after his years with Wham!. The tour began in February 1988 at the Budokan in Tokyo before traveling to 16 countries across 109 concerts in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.

The live album contains 18 tracks of unreleased recordings, and will be released by Sony Music.

The collection includes live renditions of singles from 1987 album Faith, like Father Figure, Kissing A Fool and One More Try. The album also includes several of George Michael’s own versions of other artists songs, like Stevie Wonder’s Love’s in Need of Love Today.

Faith was released in 1987, and was written, produced, and performed almost entirely by George Michael. The album won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Following it’s release, George became the only British male artist ever to achieve four U.S. No.1 singles from a single album on the Billboard Hot 100.

Wham! 10 Days in China in cinemas this July

A Wham! documentary has been announced documenting the band’s historical tour in China.

The first pop-act from the western world to visit China following its cultural revolution in 1985, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley spent 10 days trekking around the country, with the new film focusing specifically on their time in Beijing and Guangzhou. 

Titled Wham! 10 Days In China, the film will be released in cinemas worldwide on Tuesday, 28 July. It will then be broadcast on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later this summer.

Speaking on the film, Sony Music Vision and Sony Music Entertainment UK said: “This is the untold story of Wham! at a singular moment in history, East meets West, pop meets politics, and two young stars coming of age on the world stage.”

Drawing on digitally restored and never-before-seen archive footage, there will be interviews with the people that experienced the tour first hand, while chronicling the moment that Chinese audiences experienced western pop culture for the first time. 

Ridgeley also said: “This film finally reveals the unknown legacy of Wham!’s groundbreaking venture, and lays bare, in all their human contradictions, the individual perspectives behind what was a bold and risky, high-stakes gamble.” 

Tickets for the film go on sale on Wednesday, 24 June.

George Michael Freedom Uncut is getting a global cinema release

Sony Music Entertainment and Trafalgar Releasing have announced a June 22 release date for the autobiographical feature documentary, which is narrated by the late superstar artist.

 

George Michael was heavily involved in the making of the documentary before his tragic death in 2016. This 108-minute version has 17 minutes of extra footage that didn’t appear in the Channel 4 cut of George Michael Freedom.

The film covers the turbulent period after Faith leading up to, during and after the making of his Listen Without Prejudice: Vol 1 album in 1990. 

 

“George Michael Freedom Uncut is also a brilliant reminder of Michael’s outstanding musical genius during the Wham! years and throughout his solo career,” said the announcement. “The film features timeless duets with George’s favourite artists and explores how he influenced the cultural landscape of his generation as one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time.” 

 

Interwoven with exclusive, personal archival footage, the theatrical release includes previously unseen footage from Freedom! ’90. The music video has been recently remastered in 4K and will screen in full ahead of the main feature in cinemas worldwide. 

 

The feature documentary is produced by Big Geoff Overseas Limited in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment, and distributed theatrically worldwide by Trafalgar Releasing.

 

David Austin, co-producer, collaborator and manager for George Michael, said: “The film is George’s final work. Narrated by George himself, it is the complete story.”
